Anindo Marshall

Anindo Marshall began her artistic journey in Kenya as a vocalist, dancer, and percussionist, training in ballet, modern, jazz, and African dance. After moving to Europe, she signed with EMI Spain and rose to fame as “Kenya’s singing sensation.” Her musical collaborations include performing with Babatunde Olatunji and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead. Anindo’s deep connection to movement led her to study Dunham Technique under Saundra Barnes in Kenya, later continuing in the U.S. with Katherine Dunham herself and many of her master teachers. The Dunham Technique—a fusion of ballet, modern, jazz, and dances from across the African diaspora—became a cornerstone of her artistic philosophy.

Today, Ms. Marshall is a certified Dunham Technique instructor and a board member of the Katherine Dunham Certification Board. She has taught around the world at institutions such as the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Lula Washington Dance Theater, and several major universities. Anindo is also an accomplished percussionist who has studied with renowned masters including Babatunde Olatunji, Mamadi Keita, and Mor Thiam. Her expertise spans African and Latin percussion, African dance traditions from East to West Africa, and private music instruction. As Founder and Artistic Director of the Marshall Dance Company, she continues to champion Dunham Technique and leads efforts to build the Anindo Marshall Arts Academy—a future performing arts and academic institution in Luanda, Kenya.
