Carla Wilson





Carla Wilson is an award-winning filmmaker—Director, Writer and Producer. She was the Director for UCI’s production of The Trial of Dedan Kimathi for which she received an Illuminations grant. She began her film and television career after graduating from the American Film Institute (AFI) as a Directing Fellow. She's worked on productions from feature films to music videos and she has worked for major studios, such as ABC/Disney, and USA Networks. As a director, she received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities for her documentary Black American Gothic: Planting Urban Roots in Iowa which is distributed by Alexander Street Press. The project garnered the “We the People” award for social engagement. Carla has been a contracted director for UCI, where she produced/directed for SPOP Ways of Being: The Black Student Experience at UCI.
